FAQ

What is a transponder?

Incorporated as a standard feature in almost all cars since 1998, they are constantly evolving and improving the security of your vehicle.

The transponder chip contained within the head of your car key stores a unique code. Upon starting your vehicle, the transponder and the vehicle engine unit/immobiliser will communicate with each other. If the code from the transponder matches, the vehicle will start.

An attempt to start a car with a non-programmed key can cause many problems, while every make and model responds differently.

For example, some cars will not start at all, others will allow the starter motor to run but not the engine itself, while others will completely lock down the vehicle. For the latter, it can be time-consuming and often expensive to remove the lock down state of a vehicle.
